About Me

“The subject matter is so much more important than the photographer.”

— Gordon Parks

Bio

Hot sauce enthusiast Brian Hayes is a staff photojournalist at the Statesman Journal in Salem, Ore. During his time working in Oregon's beautiful capital city he has covered civil unrest, natural disasters, issues in the houseless community and tacos. He is a Wichita State University graduate in Journalism and Electronic Media. While at WSU, he served as a reporter, photographer and eventually photo editor for The Sunflower, the award-winning student-run newspaper. When Brian isn’t drinking coffee and reading crime novels, he’s taking photos and telling stories — what he loves most. He has more than five years of experience shooting for the largest newspapers in Kansas, Michigan and Oregon. Some points of pride for him are his dependability, work ethic, his ability to be cool-headed under pressure and his extensive whiskey knowledge.
